Meet Dr. Ben

BENJAMIN F. LOWE III, DDS, MSD

For me, orthodontics perfectly blends the joys of helping others, creative thinking, and a fun environment.

The older Dr. Lowe had a huge impact on my decision to pursue orthodontics too, of course. After two rounds of braces, including a headgear and some screws, one might think I had had enough of braces for a while. And that was true! For a while at least. I considered being a teacher, doctor, or (in my wildest dreams) a master Lego designer. As I came to know dentistry and explored orthodontics, I found that it allowed me to do all the things that I was passionate about – help others, educate people, think creatively, solve problems, and use my hands. Growing up seeing the joy my father got from his work and the joy he brought about in his patients was the cherry on top.

I now seek to pass this joy onto my own patients every single day by providing the best possible orthodontic care and creating beautiful, confident smiles.

EDUCATION AND CONTINUING EDUCATION

I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for undergraduate studies and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a second major in Religious Studies. I then stayed at UNC for another four years, where I earned my Doctorate of Dental Surgery. After this, my wife and I decided it was time for a change of scenery and drove a few hours north to Richmond, VA, where I obtained a Master of Science in Dentistry and my Orthodontic Certificate from Virginia Commonwealth University’s prestigious program.

I take great pride in staying up to date with new treatments, technologies, and research, so I commit myself each year to participating in continuing education courses. I am also currently pursuing Board Certification through the American Board of Orthodontics, which involves both written and clinical exams to ensure one’s commitment to the highest treatment standards.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS

I have maintained membership in the American Association of Orthodontists and Southern Association of Orthodontists since graduating dental school, both of which have provided a great space for continued learning and advocacy in the profession! Having just moved back to North Carolina, I’m looking forward to getting involved in the local societies here, including the Dental Foundation of North Carolina and the North Carolina Association of Orthodontists.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Settling back into Burlington life has been a treat for my wife and I! Having grown up here, we’re excited for the opportunity to invest in all the local places and organizations that make Burlington special. We are currently looking for a church to get involved in and staying open to all the different ways we can serve our community here.

I also have a particular interest in education and have been tutoring middle and high school students since my early years at UNC. I currently tutor with a Durham-based organization called StudentU, and I already have my sights set on getting involved in dental education at Alamance Community College!

OUTSIDE THE OFFICE

The three things most important to me are faith, family, and friends. I try my best to live out the compassion, grace, and love of Jesus Christ in all the things I do. My beautiful wife, Maggie, is my favorite human and best friend. We grew up just down the road from each other, began dating at Williams High School, and got married as high school sweethearts (aww!) in 2017. We were blessed to have welcomed our first child in early 2024 – a beautiful baby girl named Liza. We also have two beloved pets and are passionate about animal rescue. Millie is our sweet and sassy 7-year-old cat, and Jasper is our cuddly and spunky 2-year-old puppy.

In our free time, Maggie and I enjoy hanging out with our families and friends, trying new recipes, binge-watching whatever the latest Netflix or Hulu special is, and listening to every type of music from hip-hop to k-pop. I’m also an avid lover of video games, Lego, fantasy novels, and Dungeons and Dragons. Oh, and I learned a thing or two about being a sports fan from the other Dr. Lowe – I follow UNC basketball, Hurricanes hockey, and Tottenham Hotspur if you ever want to celebrate a big win or do a little trash talking with me!
